One Shot!

I learned alot from Trap shooting. The sport is to basically shoot a piece of clay flung in the air before it hits the ground. That simple! The challenge is that you have only one shot. No misses, no second attempts. Just that one shot, you either hit you're target or you lose. Again that simple!

What I love about it though, is the mental stamina you need to possess within an adrenaline-filled environment. The emotional intelligence to stay calm, even when you're brain yells at you to react. The clay stays in the air for around 6 to 7 seconds, and the target grows smaller and smaller the farther it goes. On the flip side, the target also slows down with time. So you need to:-

1. Wait for that sweet spot between balancing a target's speed and distance

2. Evaluate you're shot

3. Make a calculating decision to shoot or wait.

4. Shoot if you think you have a good chance of hitting target

All that in a period of 6 to 7 seconds! If you panic and shoot quickly, you could miss you're only chance. If you wait too long, the shot gets more and more difficult.

Just like in business. When a time critical opportunity presents itself, you potentially just have one shot. Just like Trap shooting, you need to:

1. Quickly study industry conditions to balance speed and size of market

2. Genuinely judge your strengths and weaknesses to evaluate your preparedness

3. Have the tenacity to make a fully committed decision

4. Give it all you've got!

Here is to hitting targets with just one shot!
